3-D Exhibit at Pamplin Historical Park Print E-mail

3dexhibit

At Pamplin Historical Park, The Petersburg Campaign in 3-D opened April 2, 2011. The button-activated show features 20 images with narrative captions that concisely and dramatically tell the story of the Petersburg Campaign.

Petersburg is one subject that is well illustrated in original wartime stereographs and most of the vintage negatives still exist at the Library of Congress.

As the show zooms in on a muddy, water-filled trench in a fort on the Petersburg line, viewers have the feeling of being right there, almost gliding across the water. "It really brings home the terrible conditions that those soldiers fought and lived in," said CCWP Imaging Director John J. Richter, who produced both shows.

"The show is terrific!” said Will Greene, executive director of the park. “The Center for Civil War Photography made the original images come to life for our visitors."

Pamplin Park redesigned the exhibit area at the facility's Battlefield Center to make the 3-D show the centerpiece.

This is the second 3-D show the CCWP has produced for Pamplin Historical Park. The first was in conjunction with the Civil War photography exhibition at the park in 2008-2009.
